Dr Andy Stevens, Director
Andy set up AJS Flood Risk Consulting Ltd. with a desire to assist local authorities in delivering public good effectively. Having spent 7 years in local government Andy understands the budget and time constraints that local authority officers are under and how the busyness of day to day tasks can often squeeze out space for innovation.
Key achievements include leading on business cases worth over £20 million; developing a research project to assess the use of geobags as temporary coastal defences; aiding in the design and evaluation of three new rock groynes; developing a new method for assessing coastal flood risk and training Environment Agency staff in its application; designing and site managing numerous beach management operations and the design and site management for a retaining wall which reused tropical hardwood timbers from coastal defences.
Prior to working in local government Andy undertook a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southampton, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). His thesis focused on evaluating the historic exposure to coastal flood risk in the UK.
Andy is passionate about developing projects in a way that is sustainable and delivers multiple benefits such as reducing flood risk whilst increasing biodiversity and working towards net zero aims.
